What to Know About Baseball Bat Stamps and Certifications

When selecting a baseball bat it is important to fully understand the stamps and certifications marks. Manufacturers produce several models of bats for multiple organizations. Without this knowledge you won’t be able to make the right choice when selecting a bat.

There are different models that are custom designed to meet each organization’s individual certification requirements. Bats that are custom designed for only a single organization will only have that organization’s mark. Conversely, many bats are designed to meet several organization’s requirements. These bats will have multiple organizations certifications marks. This makes them legal to use in multiple situations.

While I have provided information in the past on what the BBCOR certification implies, I thought it would be helpful to provide a brief description of all to help you out.

Here’s the breakdown of the 2023 DeMarini Bats:

The Goods Pro Series

DeMarini The Goods One Piece

Starting with the heavyweight of the lineup, the Goods Pro Series is tailored for power hitters who thrive on driving the ball deep into the outfield. This bat features an end-loaded swing weight, which means that it has more weight concentrated towards the barrel end. This design maximizes the bat’s potential for generating power, making it an ideal choice for players who can handle the additional heft. With a stiffer feel, the Goods Pro Series allows players to harness their strength and deliver explosive hits that can make a significant impact on the game.

Yes, the End Cap of a Baseball Bat is Important!

Baseball Bat End Cap

We all know nobody claims they purchased a baseball bat because it had a great end cap. In fact, it doesn’t get much consideration at all. It is all about the material, barrel size, handle flex, one- piece or two-piece construction, and the brand name that get people excited. The end cap gets zero attention, or consideration in the purchase.

The reality is that the end cap plays a key factor in how a bat functions, helps a batter swing, and hit a baseball. Did you ever notice how manufacturers advertise upgrades in a bat year over year? In many cases the change is a redesign of the end cap. This is because the end cap matters!

So, what does an end cap do?

Understand Baseball Bat Construction, Here’s a Quick Overview

I’ve covered baseball bat construction before, but wanted to pass it along again as construction is an important factor in determining the best baseball bat for you.

Like like the name suggests, a one-piece bat features a single, continuous piece of metal. On the other hand, two-piece bats feature two different sections, a separate barrel and handle connected together by a connector. And, what’s the difference between a balanced and end-loaded bat?

One-piece bats: They tend to have a stiff feel and provide little flex on contact with the ball. This allows for very little power to be lost on contact with the ball resulting in more power. One-piece bats are usually the choice for strong, power hitters.

Two-piece bats: They provide more give and flex on contact with the ball. It creates a whip effect that increases bat speed. This whip helps to increase bat speed. Hence, two-piece bats are a good choice for players who are contact hitters and need help with bat speed.

Balanced Bats: These bats have their weight distributed evenly across the length of the bat. This makes the bat easier to control, and is a good choice for younger or less experienced players. Contact hitters tend to prefer these bats.

End Loaded Bats: They have more weight near near the end of the barrel. As a result, end-loaded bats are a bit harder to control and are best used by stronger, power hitters. More weight around the sweet spot means players can generate more power and drive the ball farther.

I hope this provides you with a better understanding of baseball bat construction to help you in your selection. You can view balanced and end-loaded bats here.

Every major player in the bat space had to make changes to their 2021 line up because COVID fundamentally shifted the distribution model. 2021 Louisville Slugger BBCOR and Youth Baseball Bats

The 2021Louisville Slugger baseball bat lineup hit the market in October with BBCOR, USSSA and Youth improvements across the board.

The BBCOR bats are led by the 2021 Meta (-3), the one-piece Omaha (-3) and light-swinging Solo (-3). The Meta was completely redesigned for 2021 and includes a Meta PWR (-3) for power hitters wanting a bat with more “explosive performance,” the brand says. The new barrel construction in the Meta line offers a lighter composite end cap and will likely appeal to younger BBCOR players.

On the USSSA site, the Meta is new for the 2021 lineup. With the Meta previously available only as a BBCOR offering the demand was such that Louisville Slugger decided to expand the lineup. An updated connection piece and end cap in 2021 compare with the prior Prime model that it replaces in the USSSA lineup.

Omaha has been the Louisville Slugger bat of choice for players who prefer a one-piece design for many years. The 2021 bat was given a graphics overhaul and is exclusively available on Louisville’s website.

The USSSA Solo is now available in a -5 and -8 for the 2021 season.

Louisville Slugger is big on customization via their website. The 2021 Meta and Solo are available for customizing in both the BBCOR and USSSA models. The cost is $50.

Louisville Slugger will continue to be the brand of choice for college programs such as North Carolina, Arizona, Louisville, Georgia and Florida State.
